Officially Satisfied: Max’s Tocilog and Unofficially Yours

I finally got the chance to eat what I’ve been craving the past week or so – tocilog (tocino, sinangag, itlog)! I was browsing through Max’s online menu yesterday, and saw that they offered all-day breakfast meals which of course, included my favorite tocino rice meal. If you’re wondering why I was browsing Max’s online menu, let’s just say that it’s my way of virtually going on a food trip, without actually getting myself bloated with all those calories and cholesterol. ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s what we had for lunch… or our post-Valentine’s date?—

My husband’s Fiesta Plate Meal – 1/4 Max’s fried chicken, steamed rice, fresh lumpiang ubod, and a cute heart-shaped caramel bar.

Lumpiang Shanghai – loved this, the lumpia wrapper was thin and crunchy – you can enjoy the meaty goodness with every single bite. The photos I took don’t do justice to these bite-sized goodies.

And here comes… my Tocilog! I opted for the garlic rice (you can have the rice plain, or cooked with garlic/the sinangag style), and I was impressed with the generous tocino serving. The meat was tasty, very tender, and juicy. I think I was smiling while savoring every spoonful of the tocilog.I ate only one of the sunny-side up eggs, though.

After satisfying my tocilog craving, we set out to satisfy my curiosity about the movie, Unofficially Yours. Sobrang sulit ang bayad sa sinehan! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I will not go into detail about what made the movie such an entertaining one (yeheyy for my hubby, he didn’t doze off even once during the entire film!)… but I will say that the movie:

  • made me laugh out loud (lots of times) in the most wa-poise ways possible;
  • made me cry and ask for my husband’s handkerchief, so I can wipe away my tears;
  • effortlessly made me feel the “kilig” – and not just because of John Lloyd Cruz; and
  • succeeded in my developing a girl crush on Angel Locsin LOL. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Good food, cravings satisfied, great company, and a movie about the power of trusting someone to love you the way you deserve to be loved – I’d say, what a great way to start the weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

I Officially Want to Watch Unofficially Yours =)

I wonder when I’ll be able to watch Unofficially Yours? I’m not really an avid fan of John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin (though I like them a lot)… But judging from the onscreen kilig power that JLC-Sarah Geronimo movies created (for me and countless other moviegoers a few years ago), Unofficially Yours will be a movie that’ll reduce me to the feeling of giddy infatuation worthy of a teenage girl – at least for a few hours. ๐Ÿ˜€

I really want to watch Unofficially Yours! Some might think that it’s baduy, but I believe all of us need to have some measure ofย  “baduy-ness” in our lives (in moderation, of course! ;)). Life would be so boring if we only watched movies with the deepest, most serious plots.

A Very Pleasant Surprise from the Manila City Hall:)

All day long yesterday, I was dreading our much-needed trip todayย to the Manila City Hall; we really needed certified true copies (CTCs) of our marriage contract, so I can start the process of changing my name (and status) on legal documents. I was preparing myself to battle the bureacracy and inefficiency often associated with dealing with government employees (beep-beep! “bato-bato sa langit…!”). I was even prepared to do a little begging and sweet-talking if that would make the local government employees wake up from their (notoriously) catatonic state, and hopefully give us the attention we need.

But darn, I was very impressed with how efficient the Manila City Hall employees were! Upon entering the cavernous building, we were greeted by courteous employees, who politely asked us if we needed assistance. There were no people loitering in the corridors, no bored-looking employees who give you an i-can’t-help-you-that-is-not-my-job line in a monotone. When we got to the cashier to pay for our requests, I expected to see ladies gossiping amongst themselves, not caring if the line in front of them reached all the way to Makati. Another shocker – the cashiers were very efficient, working very quickly even if there were just a few people in line. From filling out the request form to receiving the schedule for picking up our CTCs – the whole thing lasted 15 MINUTES (and that included waiting for 5 minutes for the offices/departments to open after their lunch break, since we got to the City Hall at around 12:55)! I was thinking, was I still in the Philippines?!:P

And best of all – every little window, every office door and every department was open to serve the eager public by 1:00PM SHARP – how’s that for giving Filipino time” a new (and very much appreciated!)ย meaning?! ๐Ÿ™‚

This post has a lot of exclamation points to show how impressed and happily surprised I am with the MCH’s efficiency. I am deeply sorry – ashamed of myself, even – for thinking the worst about their employees’ services even before I set foot in their building.

Maybe there is still hope for this country, after all. I believe we really can do it, one small step at a time…

Kudos to the awesome employees of the Manila City Hall! You guys rock! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Pork Sinigang for A Lazy Sunday Lunch

I woke up really late today – just before 11AM; not surprising since I nodded off at around 3AM (can’t put down The Romanov Prophecy!). As soon as I got up, the first thing I did was start preparing the food for lunch. Since it was already late, I wanted to cook something that wouldn’t take too much time and effort to prepare, but I also wanted comfort food. After checking what we had in our freezer and vegetable crisper, I decided on pork sinigang.

Pork sinigang brings to mind images of being in the comfort of one’s home, warm and safe, while the rain steadily pours outside. This simple yet very comforting dish makes me want to go back to my childhood, when my sister and I would stay home because of the strong rains (no classes! yey! ๐Ÿ˜€ ); we can get up later than usual, without the rush associated with a normal school day. Our mom would usually cook something swimming in hot broth –ย just whatย we’re all craving for when the days and nights turn cold. I smile at the memory, thinking of how simple life was then – the extent of my dilemmas might well be how I was going to style my hair the next day, or how I can get away with sleeping later than usual that night.

As we grow old(er), life throws bigger and more complicated challenges our way. How we deal with those challenges mould us into who and what we are at present, and who we can be in the future. But I believe there are times that we should go back to the basics, and look at the grownup challenges the way a child does – who knows,ย a kid’s simplistic approach to problem-solving might just result to surprisingly effective results!

Or we can just turn to a steaming bowl of pork sinigang to make things simpler, and a whole lot better… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Serendipity is defined by Wikipedia as “the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely.” I believe all of us lead serendipitous lives, we just have different ways of looking at how fortunate we actually are. I am not claiming to be a virtuous person who always sees the good side of things – but I’m trying my best to do so.
(Okay, enough explaining…I actually just LOVE the word “serendipity“!) ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve always loved the movie Serendipity (starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale). I guess I’ve always been a hopeless romantic-believing in soulmates, and that one person is destined to be with you no matter what challenges life brings you. I believe I met my husband through serendipitous circumstances, just when I was not looking for a relationship. But God had other plans, so here we are – newly-married, happy and embracing the adjustment period.
I hope to maintain this blog more faithfully than the ones I had in the past. This blog will be a bubbling pot of my thoughts, ideas, and everything I can suddenly think of and want to write about.
Hopefully I’ll be able to express my thoughts in a coherent way ๐Ÿ˜›
